The ‘Mercat’, or market halt, is an obligatory stop lying directly opposite the market, to which it owes its name. On days when the Town Hall square is clogged up because of festivals, engine drivers take advantage of this halt’s crossing to carry out the tram-turning manoeuvre.
On the way to the next stop, the tram begins its route through the orchards and gardens of Sóller, leaving the asphalted streets behind.
Formerly the tram also stopped at what was called the “Carregador de carbó de la fàbrica de gas i central elèctrica de El Gas” (El Gas power station and gas factory coal loader). This stop was made to unload the coal transported form the port to supply the facilities of the local power company - El Gas.
